Do you guys think it’s going to save this console, or is the franchise just gonna tank because of the exclusivity??

not sure. if it doesn’t have achievements then why bother playing it?
That aside, I would love to try out the game. The video that I saw for it looked amazing. I am just not going to go spend 400 plus dollars for just one game.

PS3 will be fine just for the Blu Ray alone... as far as this game goes, it will take up a whole Blu Ray disc... so should be something impressive and a system seller.

Honestly, I don’t think the PS3 is in need of "saving" as much of it is in need of more defining titles, and more readily available third party titles. Essentially, what I’m saying is that it needs more solid exclusives and multiplatform titles that are not shoddy and/or late ports of games out on other platforms.
Still, it’s nowhere near being a dead platform, and I am sure things will pick up with a little more time.

Reason I posted is because I saw some PS3 bundles with Metal Gear being advertised and the store guy told me today that they were having major problems moving PS3s when I asked him about it. It’s no secret that Sony is getting thier asses kicked by Microsoft but Blu-Ray smashing HD-DVD was an important business move for Sony. Right now aside from Resistance (that’s all I can think of at the moment), Metal Gear is the only other reason to own a PS3. (not counting the blu-ray stuff, I just mean game-wise)

Once those bundles come out, PS3s will be moving again. Not the limited edition grey one (the $500 for a 40GB model), though. The $500 80GB with MGS4 and a DualShock 3 will sell very well, because it’s the first time in a few months that 80GB models are back on the market. While the 40GB might get impulse buys from some people interested in the Blu-Ray player, most peopler serious about gaming have been holding off for the 80GBs, with their backwards compatibility, to return. I would be very surprised if hardware sales and software sales don’t spike just because an 80GB SKU is back on the market, not to mention how very attractive the SKU is.
And that’s not even taking into account the sales MGS4 will drive. I do think things are looking up, it’s just going to be a matter of keeping the right SKU’s on the market and keeping the flow of games strong and timely.

most ps3 games have to be installed on the hdd. space can run out pretty quickly. they need to fix that. metal gear takes a whole blu ray disk. how much of that is going to occupy space on the hdd

I hear that Metal Gear 4 installs periodically throughout the course of the game, before the start of each act.
While I’m not sure, I have heard the installs are because of slow read speeds with Blu-Ray discs. I’m not too familiar with the technology and format, but it could be that such a problem could get addressed in a profile update, but I’m merely guessing.

true but if 85% of games need to install lets just say an average of 500mb to 1 gig of information where will your hdd be say at the end of the second year. i know they have to find a way to speed up the horrendous load times but damn the hdd will be rendered useless if you continue to play the same games even after youve bought the new game(s) this month

I suppose that’s the reason why Sony’s made it (relatively) easy to switch hard drives in the PS3, so that if you want to hold more, you can.
I suppose it also doesn’t matter to most people, as attachment rates rarely exceed about 6, but those of use that totally break that figure are often left out of luck (Xbox 360 cache, for example).
