In this thread I am to find out what some of you thing have been the biggest mistakes that games companies have made so far. I will give a couple of examples.

Nintendo’s 64dd - After years of PR this console add on died a Mega death and was only seen in Japan which is sad as it is actually a good piece of kit

Atari - any console after the 2600. Most notably the Jaguar and it’s add on’s like the cd drive and VR helmet

When Nintendo botched its partnership with Sony for the Playstation...

But then again, the Playstation was initially meant to be an add on for the SNES, so maybe it’s good that that didn’t happen as it might have ended up like the 32X or N 64 DD.

On that note did you know that if Sony had wanted to the first Playstation could have had a SNES port to play SNES games and it would have been legal! They opted against that because of the processing designs of the PSone

there was a system out, i forgot the name of it but i did own it in the mid 80’s. it came with a light gun a suction cup thing that you put on your tv and a vhs tape of the game . the game i had was a fighter pilot game. you shot at the screen like duck hunt and it poorly registered the hits. not sure if it ever came out with more games but it was such a piece of crap...

GTA4: No full campaign co-op. Crackdown set the bar in this area, I was hoping Take-Two would take this bar and set it higher. Im bored of single player games, not enough time and so many friends to game with.

Anything Sega related besides the Genesis was an abortion IMO.

For GTA, I hope they fix it so you can play ranked matches with your friends.  Playing with a bunch of randoms is such crap.  I would like some co-op campaign action but it doesn’t fit the story.  Crackdown had a **** story so it didn’t matter.  Plus it’s not big deal, it’s just another agent that plays with you.  I guess in GTA, you could’ve busted out your mobile phone to send an invite to your friend and he’d show up in a car or something as a "homie" or whatever.  I guess they could’ve done that.  But it’s very mission based where in Crackdown your only real goal was to take out a handful of bosses with no quests or missions.

The Nintendo Power Glove.

What a great concept that completely failed to deliver.  In practice it was harder to use than the standard controller and had serious issues with the motion detection.  But it wasn’t a total failure as it paved the way for the Wii controller.  But it sure was disappointing at the time.

the Virtual Boy.

It’s entire library can be held in one hand. Caused headaches and nausea, and was just poorly poorly advertised. Not to mention Nintendo already had the 64 coming out, and completely ditched all its loyal fans who dished out the $300 for this monstrosity, which was supposed to be a "portable" system. The Virtual Boy, to me, has to be the worst standalone console in history...even more so than the Atari Jaguar.
