I’ve had two people from 3v ask to bow out because they weren’t aware of the scope of this effort.  Fair enough, and kudos to General Tynstar and Major Flankage for speaking up.  Both of these guys are reliable, but don’t have the time to commit to make Kingpin happen.

Meanwhile, I’ve gotten in touch with Jack Burton (on my 3v watch list + friends list already) and Slim Pizza Boy about joining our effort.  They previously tried Kingpin boosting but abandoned it because they couldn’t get enough people.  JB is picking up the game this weekend, and I’m not sure what Pizza Boy’s schedule is (he didn’t have a mic last night).  But both will have extra accounts, and both should be reliable.  Jack, in particular, told me M/W/F is going to work for him, and if we start ~ 6 PST he should have 3 hours.

Next attempt will be Wed (unless ppl happen to be on tonight, though I think I’ll be doing NBA 2k8 in preparation to swap it out for Ao2).

Yeah hurry up and get Ao2 so we can do that game as well.  ;) People don’t realize the scope of getting this(these)  achievement(s) when they talk about obtaining them.  There’s a reason why this game is incomplete on my card, not because I’m lazy but because they’re a pain in the ass.  lol

Hopefully switching out the 5th xbox will solve some of the connection issues we’re having.  I’m gonna reboot my router and power off my PC before our next boosting session as well since I’ve got like 5 systems running off my router and three of them are wireless.  Generally I only use 3 of them (PC and two xboxes) so it’s usually not an issue.  The fact that Schofield and I can boost with his primary xbox without problems is what leads us to believe it’s the console in question that’s giving us issues.

Still hats off for having two copies of the game and two xboxes ready to go for this effort.  If I was single I might do the same, but the wife lays the smack down on efforts like this.  lol

Those are the, uh, "official" times for Saint’s Row.  I’m still up for ad hoc whenever we see people on.  Any time we can make progress is good, but hopefully setting aside these times & days will help us make some regular progress.

OK, that said, got a number of updates:

1.  I may have limited time tonight.  I do expect to be on by ~6 PST, but I’m going to have to bail early.  Hopefully we can get some momentum going before then, and hopefully we can get some new people involved so that one person with a scheduling conflict won’t derail a whole evening.  Which brings us to...

2.  From 3v, "Slim Pizza Boy" is ready to join us.  He’s got 82k gamerscore, and I’ve seen him pwning it up on some of the challenges there, so even though I haven’t gamed with him before I’ve got a good feeling that he’ll go after points aggressively.  He has also attempted Kingpin in the past, but abandoned his attempt due to lack of people.  He’s expressed a lot of enthusiasm about starting up again.  Slim is on Central time and finishes work around 7:00.  It might be a stretch for him to join us at 6 PST, which is 8 Central, but we’ll see when he can get on & what that means for our sessions.  Unfortunately, it sounds like he’ll have virtually no overlap with OnWithTheShow.

3.  Also from 3v, "Jack Burton 78" will be ready to join us soon.  Jack has been on my watch list / friends list for quite some time.  I haven’t gamed with him too much, but he was working with Slim on that attempt so he knows what this is all about.  I talked to Jack for a while in chat and he doesn’t have the game anymore, but will pick it up this weekend.  He does have a 2nd account, and he’s good to go for a while at 6PST.

4.  Disbron dug up a friend, Ace of Jokers, who might show tonight.  Ace is apparently very close to Kingpin (only a couple levels away), but unfortunately it sounds like he was using a different game type.  Since we’ve been investing time in BAC, I don’t know if we’re really going to be able to help each other.  Then again, we might be able to learn a lot from him about what it takes to rank up as high as he did.

5. Disbron also pointed out a thread started by "Chiguy" @ 3v about Kingpin.  I’ve added Chiguy to my friends list and invited him to our efforts.  He was targetting Wed/Thu.  Maybe we can hook up tonight?  Not sure.  I tried him on Monday, but he has Mondays set aside for Vegas 1.

6.  I’m not getting a good vibe from AxGryndr.  I don’t know him personally, but I am not seeing him online a lot, and I finally got a message from him stating that he doesn’t have a 2nd account.  I think that has to be a requirement at this point, unless we find a safe way to rank up without them.  If he gets a 2nd account and shows up I won’t turn him away, but at this point I don’t think he can help us.

Have I missed anyone?

One last note--EVIL has voiced concern about getting too many people involved.  We don’t want to be stuck doing Kingpin for a huge group of people or helping out a bunch of people who are just going to bail on us or this effort will never end.  At the same time, I don’t think we can rely on just 5, or we’ll never get started.

IMO, the ideal situation will be to get just enough people that we can have a couple different sessions to accommodate everyones’ schedules.  For example, maybe M/W/F at 6 PST and add earlier times on Tu/Th for OnWithTheShow and anyone else who can make an earlier slot those days.  Nobody has to show up for all sessions as long as we have enough going on that everyone can make progress.  And once you hit Kingpin and then derank you’re out and can move on to something else.

Now, maybe things won’t work out that cleanly in reality due to schedules or problems with deranking too quickly, or whatever, but we can fine tune those details later.  For now I think we have enough people expressing interest, but not enough people showing up.  Let’s hold off on recruiting new people and see where we stand over the next week or so as far as who shows up, who bails, etc.  Sound like a plan?

I will jump in when possible like tonight to be a running target.  It was good timing as we just wrapped up practice on CoD 4

Really this is the deal.  We need 5 people at all times to match up our two teams.  If we can get Schofield’s other box working, we really technically only need 4 people to do this.  I don’t mind boosting up Onwiththeshow and I guess now Slim Pizza Boy and Ace of Jokers if they are going to be able to make our boosting times.  Every person that gets thrown into the mix adds an additonal unknown amount of hours into all the dedicated people’s time. 

I can’t speak for everyone else but I’m not into a charity thing where we just boost up people we don’t know in hopes that they’ll be in this for the long haul.  I’m willing to do this 3 days a week for 3 hours each day which is a huge chunk of my gaming time. (it’s all my prime hours)  I want to focus on the main 4 guys we have during those 3 days of boosting, not keep restarting for new guys to join in.  I’m probably just feeling like I’m wasting my time since my trueskill is not moving at all.

I’m sure I’ll feel better about this once I make even just a little bit of progress towards Kingpin.  But right now I’ve dumped about 20 hours into this and I’m still a rank 1.  The last chance I have it to try to rank off someone who’s above a trueskill of 10 or so.  For the next session I just want to play as Stansfield on the losing team or start a new boosting tag to rank up to 15 so I can pit him against my main gamertag.  I have a bad feeling that Kingpins are going to derank extrememly quickly based off what Toxic Taz was saying during the initial boost for this, so that’s just a mutltitude of extra clean accounts we’re going to need.  I’m willing to pick up month live cards if this looks like we’re going to be able to do it.
