I'm a casual player who began with MMORPG and RTS games back in the 90s. I prefer PC keyboard controlled games over console. Console graphics give me motion sickness and the controllers make my thumbs sore as heck.
The first Computer MMORPG that I was hooked on was Might and Magic, which quickly led me to the very addictive Everquest. I spent 7 yrs on Everquest. I enjoyed every moment of it except for the expense to maintain the menotonous expansions that seemed to be spawning faster than they could get released. After my 12 expansion on 4 accounts, I moved on to World of Warcraft who made their "Patches" frequently and at no cost to the player. After my 4th year on World of Warcraft they began releasing expansions you had to purchase on top of the monthly fee. I purchased the first expansion with no second thoughts. Once I obtained the top level and keyed for the UBER dungeons the announcement came out for another expansion which would be an added cost on top of the monthly server access fee. Needless to say after 11 yrs of MMORPG, I walked away disgruntled. I figured the cost of all the expansions and server fees for the years and realized I could have paid half my house note off or at least taken a really nice cruise somewhere.
I am currently building a CSS server and playing on it nightly with my fiance and friends. I have a few asking me to consider CoD4. I was struggling with the idea of purchasing it when someone told me to purchase the CoD4 because it was a cake walk compared to CSS. Needless to say that turned me off from the game. I like a challenge. I like pushing my limits. I don't like sitting at a computer just pushing the mouse button.
For a few months at the beginning of the year I played Age of Empires. I liked the scenerio playing but solo play wasn't that entertaining. Like I said I like a challenge.
Lets see, I played SimCity and Sims until of course all the expansions began. The online option turned me off as well. To me it sounded like an interactive chat room with a weird twist.
Well, thats me in a nutshell with gaming. I remember pre atari games like pong and paddle ball. Donkey Kong original, Frogger, and space invaders. I remember sitting at the kitchen table with a board and wires building a box with blinking light thinking that was cool. When paddle ball and pong came out, It was the best thing alive. Now look at where we've taken it.
lol.. I had a home version of Pong and gave it away to some kids who didn’t have money for a gaming system. Kind of wish I still had it.
